TULUM — Members of the local taxi union have expressed their expectations regarding the upcoming publication of a new fare schedule currently under analysis by the Quintana Roo Institute of Mobility (IMOVEQROO). The drivers are confident that the adjustment will reflect the real conditions of the service and allow them to confront the sustained increase in operating costs, fuel, and maintenance of their vehicles.
According to Marco Cauich, a representative of the local union, the fares have not been updated for several years, which has considerably reduced the income of the drivers. "It has been several years without an update that allows us to balance what we spend and what we earn. We hope the new fare schedule is fair and considers the effort we make to continue providing the service," he stated.
The leader indicated that increases in spare parts, oil, tires, and fuel have directly impacted the economy of hundreds of families that depend on public transportation. He affirmed that many drivers have had to absorb the costs without passing them on to the fare, affecting the profitability of their daily work.
For its part, IMOVEQROO is conducting a technical study that considers variables such as the average price of fuel, the condition of the roads, user demand, and general operating expenses. Based on these indicators, the authority will determine the percentage of adjustment that could be applied before the end of the year.
However, among frequent users, there is also concern about the possible impact the increase could have on their finances. "We understand that taxi drivers face expenses, but we hope the increase is reasonable and does not affect too much those of us who use the service every day," expressed a citizen who was interviewed.
So far, the Institute of Mobility has not confirmed the exact date on which the new fare schedule will be announced. Both concessionaires and passengers remain awaiting a resolution that manages to balance the needs of the sector with the economic capacity of the population.
This process is part of the fare update that will be implemented across the entire state of Quintana Roo, with the purpose of guaranteeing a sustainable, competitive, and accessible public transportation service for the citizenry.
