TULUM — The municipality of Tulum is maintaining a downward trend in the commission of homicides and now accounts for just 3.7 percent of the crimes registered in Quintana Roo, according to official figures presented by the state's Attorney General, Dr. Raciel López.

Authorities indicated that these results are a response to the inter-institutional coordination that has been strengthened over the last year in security matters.

According to the report, so far this year, 152 detentions have been made of individuals linked to violence-generating criminal groups, of which 82 belong directly to criminal organizations that were operating in various parts of the municipality.

These actions, authorities highlighted, have been fundamental to containing criminal incidence and dismantling cells dedicated primarily to retail drug sales.

The analysis by the Attorney General's Office confirms that all homicides registered in Tulum are related to clashes between antagonistic groups dedicated to illicit activities, particularly the dispute over territories for drug sales. These incidents, the attorney general emphasized, are not linked to attacks on civilians or the population unconnected to these conflicts.

One case that remains under investigation is the Melchor case, which occurred in Akumal. This case is not related to organized crime but rather stemmed from a conflict over the buying and selling of land in the area. The Attorney General's Office continues with the corresponding procedures to determine responsibilities.

Authorities acknowledged that, while the downward trend is a positive indicator, strengthening public security requires maintaining permanent coordination between the three levels of government.

Among the actions implemented are joint operations, focused patrols, detentions based on operational intelligence, and the seizure of weapons, narcotics, and vehicles linked to high-impact crimes.

The state report underscores that Tulum continues to be one of the municipalities with the lowest criminal incidence in the state, although challenges persist associated with population growth, tourist activity, and the presence of external criminal groups seeking to operate in the region.

The Attorney General's Office reiterated its commitment to maintaining active investigations and strengthening security actions to guarantee the safety of residents and visitors.
