Tulum, Quintana Roo — A merchant has accused the administrator of Tulum’s artisan center of physically assaulting her and causing significant damage to her shop during a violent confrontation inside her business.

The woman, who operates a store in the Centro Artesanal de Tulum, identified the alleged attacker as Pedro Canul Méndez, whom she described as the market’s administrator. She reported that the incident occurred when Canul entered her establishment and confronted her aggressively, escalating to physical violence.

According to the merchant’s account, this was not the first time she had experienced aggression from Canul, having previously been subjected to verbal abuse from him. However, during this latest altercation, the situation intensified dramatically.

The merchant stated that during the confrontation, Canul threw merchandise, broke glasses that were part of her inventory, and damaged furniture within the shop, resulting in economic losses for her business. She also reported visible injuries from the incident, including a blow to her lip.

“There are video recordings that captured the moment of the aggression,” the merchant said, adding that this evidence could support her version of events.

Following the altercation, the merchant indicated that she was offered compensation for the material damages. However, she emphasized that the situation cannot be limited to financial compensation alone, as she considers it a direct assault against her while she was working.

The merchant expressed concern for her safety and that of her family, describing Canul as “arrogant and aggressive” in his behavior during the conflict. She said his actions during the confrontation generated fear due to how he allegedly acted.

“My business represents the economic livelihood for my family,” the merchant explained, “so I consider it necessary that the reported events be investigated.”

She has requested that the case not go unpunished and reiterated her intention to continue her commercial activities without facing violent situations. As of now, no official information has been released regarding whether the case has been formally presented to authorities.
