Tulum Airport Soars with New Flight Routes

Quintana Roo's air travel infrastructure continues to grow with the addition of new flights and an uptick in daily operations. Over a recent weekend, the region's four international airports scheduled 660 flights. Of these, 558 were routed through Cancun International Airport, with 413 being international arrivals and departures. This increase in connectivity contributes to a new era of tourism in the Mexican Caribbean, according to Governor Mara Lezama.

Over the past two years, Quintana Roo has enhanced its air travel infrastructure. This includes the renovation of the Chetumal terminal and the opening of Tulum International Airport. Remarkably, Tulum International surpassed one million passengers in its first year of operation. This week, the airport added a direct route between Guadalajara and Tulum, facilitated by the airline Volaris. This new connection further establishes Tulum as a strategic destination in the emerging era of Mexican Caribbean tourism.

Governor Mara Lezama believes that the expansion of flight routes and the surge in visitors are crucial for boosting shared prosperity for local families. The airports in Quintana Roo primarily serve routes to and from the United States and other parts of Mexico, representing the two most significant visitor markets.

From January to August of this year, Quintana Roo welcomed 14.3 million visitors. Of these, 5.5 million were from the United States and 4.8 million were from various states within Mexico. This equates to 33% domestic and 66% international visitors.
