Tulum Eliminates Illegal Bus Stops to Streamline Public Transport

Tulum, Quintana Roo — The Tulum city government and the Quintana Roo Institute of Mobility (IMOVEQROO) launched an operation to eliminate unauthorized public transport stops at key locations throughout the municipality, aiming to ease traffic congestion and improve pedestrian safety.

The move comes in response to numerous citizen complaints about lane saturation and disorderly passenger boarding on high-traffic avenues, which created bottlenecks and constant hazards for pedestrians and cyclists.

Authorities said the measure is not meant to restrict mobility services but to consolidate taxi, van, and bus operations at official, authorized stops equipped with proper infrastructure and signage for safe passenger boarding and alighting.

Municipal traffic and transport crews removed cones, counterfeit signs, and unauthorized structures that transport groups had arbitrarily placed on public right-of-way.

Officials stated that inspectors will maintain regular patrols to ensure all public transport and concessionaire vehicles use only the designated unified stops. The enforcement is part of a broader 2026 traffic management plan to modernize the city’s urban image, ease traffic flow, and guarantee safe mobility for residents and international tourists.
