Quintana Roo, Mexico — Governor Mara Lezama of Quintana Roo announced via social media on Tuesday, June 24, 2025, that a low-pressure system in the Atlantic Ocean has developed into Tropical Storm Andrea. Currently located 4,035 kilometers from the state, the storm does not yet pose an immediate threat to the population.

First Tropical Storm of the Season Targets Quintana Roo

According to Governor Lezama, Tropical Storm Andrea marks the first system of the 2025 hurricane season with a potential trajectory toward Quintana Roo. Authorities have urged residents to stay informed, remain vigilant, and follow directives from Civil Protection agencies.

The storm underwent rapid intensification during its formation, followed by a significant decrease in activity before officially being classified as a tropical storm at 9:00 a.m. on Tuesday.

Preparedness Measures Advised

Civil Protection and the Quintana Roo government have emphasized the importance of readiness as Tropical Storm Andrea approaches. Key recommendations include:

  • Family Action Plans: Households should establish meeting points and assign responsibilities for assisting children, elderly family members, and pets in case of an emergency.
  • Emergency Kits: Essential items such as canned food, bottled water, important documents, medications, first-aid supplies, pet food, leashes, a radio, and portable phone chargers should be prepared.

Uncertain Timeline for Impact

Governor Lezama noted that Tropical Storm Andrea is moving east-northeast at 28 kilometers per hour. However, no exact date for its potential arrival in Quintana Roo has been confirmed. Officials hope the storm’s path may shift or its progression slow to minimize impact on the region.

Residents are advised to monitor weather updates, avoid entering the ocean if warning flags are raised, and limit nonessential travel.
