Infant’s Body Found in Rural Quintana Roo Community

José María Morelos, Quintana Roo — The tranquility of the La Candelaria community was shattered this Saturday following the discovery of a deceased infant, an event that has generated shock among residents and mobilized state security and justice authorities.

According to preliminary information, the discovery occurred around six in the morning next to the La Candelaria–Saczuquil highway stretch. Passersby in the area noticed a figure in the undergrowth and, upon approaching, confirmed it was a minor. They immediately alerted the 911 emergency number.

Elements of the Secretary of Citizen Security arrived at the site and confirmed it was a male infant who no longer showed vital signs. The agents proceeded to cordon off the area to preserve evidence and allow for forensic investigations.

Moments later, specialists from the State Attorney General's Office carried out the recovery of the body and its transfer to the Forensic Medical Service, where the legally required autopsy will be performed to determine the cause and estimated time of death.

The FGE reported that an investigation file has been opened to clarify the circumstances of the event and locate those responsible. As part of the actions, ministerial agents have begun conducting interviews with residents and patrols in nearby communities, with the goal of obtaining clues to help identify the minor and his relatives.

As of the close of this edition, authorities have not released additional details regarding the infant's identity or the possible causes of his death. However, it was assured that the case is being investigated under specialized protocols for the protection of children.

This event has caused profound sadness among the neighbors of La Candelaria, who have demanded justice and requested increased surveillance on rural roads, fearing that similar situations could be repeated in the area.
