A 77-year-old Canadian tourist tragically lost his life due to drowning at Playa Sol, a popular beach in Puerto Morelos. This happened despite the immediate rescue efforts made by lifeguards and paramedics at the scene.
The unfortunate incident occurred on a busy Saturday afternoon at Playa Sol, also known as Ojo de Agua. The tourist was having difficulty staying afloat and was promptly assisted by a lifeguard around 3:20 pm, right in front of the lifeguard watchtower.
Even though the lifeguard performed cardiopulmonary resuscitation, the paramedics from a private ambulance service confirmed the tourist's death a short while later. The area of the beach where the incident occurred was quickly cordoned off near the seashore.
Officers from the Municipal Police and representatives from various other agencies arrived at the scene following the incident. The State Attorney General's Office also intervened, initiating the process for body recovery.
Initial reports indicate that the deceased was a 77-year-old man visiting from Canada.
