Playa del Carmen, Mexico — A man lost his life this afternoon after being crushed by the tires of a truck he was inspecting. The incident occurred when a bus rear-ended the stationary vehicle in the Puerto Aventuras borough.
The tragic accident took place on Federal Highway 307 at the height of Avenida Calzada Puerto Maya. According to a report from the Municipal Citizen Security Secretariat, a Mercedes Benz bus, operated by the Del Valle company, was traveling from north to south when it struck the rear of a stationary white International truck. The truck was parked on the far-left side of the road.
As a consequence of the impact, the truck was propelled forward and ran over the man, who was performing a mechanical inspection underneath the unit. It appears the driver of the Del Valle company bus lost control of the vehicle after falling asleep at the wheel for a few seconds.
Police officers cordoned off the area, which was later processed by personnel from the State Attorney General's Office, who were responsible for removing the body. The responsible driver was taken to the Public Prosecutor's Office.
