Tourist Police Seize 27 Suspected Cocaine Packages on Cancún Hotel Zone Beach

Packages of suspected cocaine laid out on a beach in Cancún's Hotel Zone after being seized by Tourist Police officers

Cancún, Quintana Roo — Tourist Police officers seized 27 packages containing a white powder with characteristics similar to cocaine on a beach in Cancún’s Hotel Zone, in an operation tied to the city’s Blindaje Cancún security program.

The packages were found at kilometer 12.5 of Kukulcán Boulevard, where officers spotted the plastic wrappers at the water’s edge during inspection and surveillance patrols.

Officers from all three levels of government took part in the operation, working with the Mexican Army (SEDENA), the Mexican Navy (SEMAR), the National Guard and the State Prosecutor’s Office (FGE).

Packages turned over to prosecutors

The 27 packages were handed over to the Specialized Prosecutor’s Office for the Investigation of Crimes Against Health in its street-level drug dealing modality, which will assemble the case.

Forensic examinations will determine the composition of the substance as authorities continue with the legal proceedings stemming from the discovery.
