Tourist Missing After Falling From Kayak Off Holbox Island

Boats and rescue personnel search the waters off Holbox Island for a missing tourist

Holbox, Quintana Roo — A tourist from Mexico City disappeared Saturday while kayaking off the island of Holbox, prompting a large-scale search by authorities and local tourism operators.

The visitor, identified as Jesús Manuel N., was taking part in kayak and paddleboard activities with a group when he reportedly fell into the water and did not resurface, according to preliminary reports.

Companions alerted authorities, and a search operation was launched led by the Harbor Master’s Office, National Guard, Mexican Navy, firefighters, fishing cooperatives, and tourism service providers.

The search is focused on areas including Punta Cocos, Punta Mosquito, Zomay, and Casa Blanca. Around 20 vessels are involved, and drones are being used to expand the maritime search.

Local tourism operators and fishermen have requested specialized equipment and compressors to aid the search in deeper waters, while patrols continue in an effort to locate the missing tourist.
