Playa del Carmen, Quintana Roo — A series of gunshots and a subsequent chase prompted a large-scale police deployment Saturday afternoon in this coastal city.
According to preliminary reports, the incident began when unknown assailants opened fire on a mototaxi operated by the CROC union, bearing unit number 83.
The attack triggered a pursuit through several parts of the city, drawing officers from the Public Security Department and the State Police.
Witnesses said that during the suspects’ escape, another vehicle may also have been targeted, though authorities have not confirmed this.
When police arrived at the scene, they found only the mototaxi with multiple bullet holes. No suspects or other involved vehicles were located.
Security forces cordoned off the area while forensic experts and ministerial agents began collecting evidence and opening an investigation.
Despite the violence of the attack, no injuries or deaths have been reported.
Police continue an active search operation across various sectors of Playa del Carmen to locate and arrest those responsible.
