Kantunil, Yucatan — A driver escaped serious injury Monday morning after a tire blowout caused him to lose control of his vehicle and crash into a barrier on the Merida-Cancun toll highway.
The incident occurred near kilometer 119 on the Kantunil-Puerto Juarez section of the federal highway. The driver, identified as 58-year-old Pedro G. Cano L., was traveling in a white Changan car with Quintana Roo license plates URF-364-R when one of the tires suddenly burst.
The blowout caused Cano to lose control of the vehicle, which then collided with a metal containment barrier. The car came to rest partially blocking the roadway, creating a hazard for other motorists in the area.
Emergency responders, including police officers from the Public Security Department and Red Cross paramedics, arrived at the scene after receiving reports of the accident. They evaluated the driver at the location and determined he had not sustained serious injuries, so no hospital transport was necessary.
National Guard highway division personnel coordinated with a tow truck to remove the damaged vehicle and restore normal traffic flow on this important highway section.
