Three-Year-Old Boy Rescued After Getting Stuck in Washing Machine in Playa del Carmen

Emergency responders at the scene of a washing machine rescue in Playa del Carmen

Playa del Carmen, Quintana Roo — Emergency crews rescued a three-year-old boy who became trapped in a washing machine at his family home on Sunday afternoon.

The incident occurred around 1:00 p.m. at a residence on Privada Lombardo, between 56 Norte and Flor de Ciruelo in the Real Ibiza 2 neighborhood.

The boy’s parents called 911 after discovering their son stuck in the appliance, but they refrained from attempting to free him themselves for fear of causing injury.

Firefighters from Playa del Carmen responded to the scene and spent nearly an hour carefully extracting the child, who was trapped up to his chest in the washing machine. Authorities did not specify how the boy managed to get inside the machine.

Paramedics examined the child after his rescue and determined he had not sustained any injuries, so they did not transport him to a hospital.

Police and firefighters urged the family to supervise the child more closely to prevent similar incidents in the future.

Such cases are unfortunately common, with children frequently getting stuck in washing machines while playing inside them without recognizing the danger.

While most children emerge unharmed from these incidents, some do suffer injuries or fractures.

Authorities emphasized that washing machines are not designed for children to play in and recommended constant supervision to keep young children away from household appliances.
