Mahahual, Quintana Roo — Three men riding motorcycles were abducted by an armed group on Tuesday afternoon along the Malecón in Mahahual, near the lighthouse, authorities reported.
According to preliminary accounts, the victims were intercepted by assailants who allegedly beat them before forcing them into several pickup trucks. The trucks then headed toward the federal highway, leaving the motorcycles abandoned at the scene.
After witnesses reported the incident, municipal authorities requested support and activated a “code red” alert. Federal and state officers launched a major operation in the area, setting up checkpoints and closing access points to and from the community, as well as roads to nearby towns.
So far, authorities have not located the victims or made any arrests. Fear has gripped the community, with residents avoiding providing details due to concerns about possible retaliation.
Authorities continue search and surveillance efforts in the zone.
