Cancún, Quintana Roo — The Quintana Roo State Attorney General’s Office (FGE) obtained a guilty verdict with a 40-year prison sentence following an oral trial hearing for the crime of aggravated homicide committed against a teenager in Cancún.
The convicted individuals were part of a criminal group that generated violence and was dedicated to the sale and distribution of narcotics in the state.
Who Are the Convicted Murderers?
The convicted individuals are: Gustavo Adolfo Bermudes Quintero, José Ángel Zamudio López, and Óscar Leonel Algara Chi. The judicial authority imposed a fine of 192,440 pesos on each of the mentioned individuals; additionally, they must pay 874,722.20 pesos for damages.
How Did the Events in Cancún Unfold?
The events for which these individuals will remain four decades in prison occurred on November 11, 2022, when the victim, approximately 15 years old, was walking through a parking lot in the Prado Norte subdivision.
At that moment, the now-convicted individuals, aboard an EcoSport-type van, approached the teenager, stopped the vehicle, and immediately, José Ángel Zamudio López shot him multiple times.
Where Were the Murderers Detained?
According to investigations conducted by elements of the Investigation Police, the motive for the homicide was related to the purchase and sale of illicit substances.
Through analysis of C5 cameras, the characteristics of the vehicle and the probable perpetrators were identified, which allowed the execution of the arrest warrant on December 2, 2022.
