Tulum, Quintana Roo — Three people were injured in a rear-end collision between a private car and a tourist van on the Tulum-Cobá highway, causing the van carrying a family of U.S. origin to overturn off the asphalt road.

According to initial reports, the driver of a white Toyota van, identified as David Larson, 45, from Washington, United States, was traveling toward Cobá accompanied by five family members: Aidan, Owen, Tiffani, Brian, and Tucker Larson, all U.S. nationals. The journey was interrupted when a gray Volkswagen Bora struck them from behind.

The car was allegedly driven at excessive speed by Domingo Guzmán Salazar, 34, from Cobá. After the impact, the van left the road and ended up overturned, while the Bora suffered severe damage to the front.

Elements of the Tulum Civil Protection and Fire Department arrived to provide pre-hospital care to the occupants. Paramedics from the Mexican Red Cross also attended, conducting medical evaluations of those involved.

During the assessment, it was determined that Brian Larson, 18, had confusion in his right foot and a wound approximately two centimeters long in the buttocks area. Tucker Larson suffered a laceration on the lower lip, abrasions on the limbs, and a wound about three centimeters long on the elbow. Both were taken to a hospital for specialized care.

Meanwhile, the driver of the Bora, Domingo Guzmán, presented a lacerating wound in the nasal region that required approximately five stitches, so he also received first aid.

Two units and two motorcycle patrols from the Municipal Police arrived at the site, along with Traffic agents, who took charge of the incident, conducted the investigation, and coordinated vehicle traffic to prevent further accidents.

The authorities continue to determine responsibilities to establish the precise cause of the incident.
