Tres Reyes, Quintana Roo — A tragic accident occurred on the morning of Wednesday, July 30, on Federal Highway 307 near kilometer 166, close to the town of Tres Reyes, leaving three people dead and at least nine others injured.
Details of the Collision
According to preliminary reports, the driver of a silver Dodge Attitude, transporting a family returning to Chiapas after vacationing in Quintana Roo, allegedly “dozed off” at the wheel. This caused the vehicle to veer into the opposite lane and collide head-on with a public transport van operated by the UNTRAC union, bearing the number 16.
The violent impact sent the van off the road and into nearby brush. The private vehicle sustained severe front-end damage, and three of its occupants—two minors and one adult—died at the scene. The sole survivor from the car, a woman, suffered serious injuries.
Eight passengers in the public transport van sustained various injuries. Emergency responders from the Red Cross, Medical Room, Tulum Hospital, and CostaMed provided on-site medical attention. Some victims were transported to Felipe Carrillo Puerto General Hospital, while others were taken to clinics in Tulum. Authorities continue to assess the victims’ conditions to determine further medical transfers.
Ongoing Investigation and Traffic Disruptions
National Guard officers from the Roads Division have cordoned off the area to facilitate forensic investigations and the removal of the wrecked vehicles. Traffic along this stretch of the highway has been disrupted for several hours due to rescue and cleanup operations.
