Cancún, Mexico — Following the discovery of a body inside a supermarket cart in Cancún, the state prosecutor’s office announced the arrest of three individuals suspected of involvement in the crime.
The incident occurred on January 1, 2026, but the body was found three days later.
On Sunday, January 4, the lifeless body of a woman was found wrapped in a sheet and abandoned inside a supermarket cart in a park in Supermanzana 68 in Cancún.
Nearly a week after the events, the State Attorney General’s Office executed an arrest warrant against three people for their probable participation in the crime of femicide, related to the macabre discovery.
Who Are the People Detained for the Femicide in Cancún?
The detained individuals were identified as Freddy “N”, alias “Barbas”; Mario Francisco “N”, alias “Paco”; and Estefanía Iyujari “N”, alias “Fanny”. According to the Prosecutor’s Office, the three are likely directly related to the events that led to the death of a woman whose identity is being withheld.
It should be noted that Estefanía Iyujari “N” had previously been detained for drug dealing. After the arrest warrant was carried out, the accused were placed at the disposal of the judicial authority, which will determine their legal status within the legal timeframe.
How Did the Events Investigated by the Prosecutor’s Office Occur?
Initial investigations indicate that on January 1, 2026, the victim went to a residence located in Supermanzana 65, where she was socializing with the now-detained individuals and other people.
At that location, Estefanía Iyujari “N” allegedly had an argument with the victim, whom she reportedly physically assaulted and suffocated. Subsequently, upon realizing that the woman was still breathing, Freddy “N” allegedly participated in the assault until she was deprived of her life, while Mario Francisco “N” collaborated in moving the body.
What Did the Forensic Investigations Reveal About the Cause of Death?
According to the autopsy performed by experts from the State Attorney General’s Office, the victim showed signs of sexual abuse and the cause of death was mechanical asphyxiation by strangulation. After the events, the body was transported in a supermarket cart and abandoned in the park where it was found.
