Cancún. More than ten publishing houses will gather to offer texts for all ages during the “Third Winter Book Fair,” which will feature Peru as a special guest, along with its vast culture. The event will also include local writers in the Maya language. It will take place from January 22 to 25 at the Urban Center plaza.
Organizers Aim to Reach New Generations
Pablo Martínez, director of the Center for Support of Indigenous Migrants in Cancún, one of the organizers, commented that this year the fair has the motto: “For a reading city,” stating that it is important for new generations to begin developing the habit of reading. For this purpose, the event will feature the Reading Rooms of Quintana Roo group.
“It is an event that also brings together writers from the Yucatán Peninsula and other municipalities of Quintana Roo, as well as universities,” he explained.
Will Have Presenters from Five Universities
It is a completely free event that has had a very good response in previous years, and in 2026 it will be held from January 22 to 25, with the presence of guests from the National Electoral Institute and presenters from five universities in the state.
He explained that more than ten publishing houses are gathering to offer books for all ages at accessible prices, as the objective is to gradually create a reading habit in new generations.
“The goal is to promote reading in the community by presenting activities such as workshops, book presentations, conferences, and publisher stands,” he said.
He assured that in Cancún there are people from many places, both nationals and foreigners, who still value reading a good book.
Nothing Surpasses the Experience of Browsing and Reading a Book
Despite many people opting for digital information and reading, the experience of browsing, smelling, and feeling a book is not the same as swiping pages with a finger on a computer, tablet, or smartphone screen.
During the event, there will be conferences by local, national, and international writers. Additionally, there will be various activities such as chess tables to teach the game to attendees. There will be drawing workshops, as well as the creation of some handicrafts.
“It is an excellent opportunity to visit as a family, due to the activities scheduled for children, young adults, and the elderly,” he assured.
Books Starting at 100 Pesos
There will be new and second-hand books starting at 100 pesos, with quite important titles, including many classics. Additionally, there will be handicraft stalls offering jewelry, handmade items, traditional embroidered clothing, melipona honey, among others.
As it is a cultural event, Mayan traditions, with their ceremonies, cannot be missing. He reminded that admission will be free to enjoy several hours of entertainment and knowledge.
