Playa del Carmen, Mexico — A coordinated effort between the Playa del Carmen Municipal Government, the Secretariat of Citizen Security, the Mexican Navy, and the Secretariat of Civil Protection, Risk Prevention, and Firefighters led to the successful rescue of two individuals lost at sea off the coast of Punta Allen in the municipality of Tulum.
Swift Response Saves Lives
The search operation was initiated following reports of the disappearance of Erick Gabriel Ramírez Luna and José Ángel Rodríguez Ríos, who were last seen the previous afternoon. At 9:58 a.m., the Albatros helicopter, deployed as part of the aerial search, located the missing individuals in open waters, prompting an immediate rescue protocol.
After being safely recovered, both individuals received medical attention from personnel aboard Civil Protection Ambulance 2-D and the ERUM Unit 8700-EB of the Citizen Security Secretariat. While they were found in stable condition, they exhibited signs of dehydration and were administered first aid on-site.
"This marks the third successful rescue operation in which the Albatros helicopter has played a pivotal role, confirming its strategic value in municipal security and civil protection efforts," officials stated. "The government’s commitment to safeguarding lives and ensuring public welfare is reinforced through decisive action and advanced technology."
The Playa del Carmen government, under the leadership of Mayor Estefanía Mercado, emphasized its dedication to protecting residents and visitors alike through proactive measures and interagency collaboration.
