Tulum, Quintana Roo — Governor Mara Lezama Espinosa presided over the traditional Maya Ball Court Festival, celebrating one of the most significant ancestral festivities that perpetuate the traditions and customs of the Maya culture. The event, which brought together authorities, families, and the general public, was held at the locality's ceremonial center.

During the opening ceremony, the governor highlighted the importance of this cultural gathering, stating that "the Maya Ball Court Festival is an encounter with our roots, a space where the land, memory, and hope embrace one another." In her speech, Lezama emphasized the relevance of spirituality and community, describing them as threads that weave an identity flourishing through time.

Nicasio Canché, a Maya dignitary in charge of welcoming attendees, expressed that this is the first time a governor has officially initiated the harvest season, thanking the governor for her support of Maya culture. Alongside other local leaders, including Verónica Lezama Espinosa, honorary president of DIF Quintana Roo, and Deputy Silvia Dzul, the event marked a milestone in the cultural history of the state.

The governor recalled that the Maya people have faced numerous challenges, maintaining their identity with work and unshakable faith. "We are a government that believes in living culture as a pillar of shared well-being and prosperity," she affirmed.

Finally, Mara Lezama urged those present to continue honoring their history, underlining that the New Agreement for the Well-being and Development of Quintana Roo seeks to build an inclusive future. "Let us continue writing, among all of us, the most beautiful pages in the history of Quintana Roo," she concluded.

The Maya Ball Court Festival not only celebrates the ancestral legacy but also reinforces the unity and essence of the people of Tulum.
