Cancún, Mexico — A teenager was arrested in Cancún for his alleged involvement in the sexual abuse of a 13-year-old girl in the city's Region 235, according to an official statement from the Quintana Roo State Attorney General's Office. The arrest was carried out in a joint operation by State and Municipal Police officers, in coordination with specialized units.
Details of the Incident
Preliminary reports indicate the incident occurred at a residence in Supermanzana 235, Manzana 56, in Cancún. The suspect allegedly invited the minor to his home under the pretext of offering her food while they were alone.
Once inside, the abuse reportedly took place. After the incident, the suspect instructed the victim to leave. Initial accounts had mistakenly suggested the crime occurred in a public green space in Cancún.
Victim Assistance and Investigation
The victim received immediate assistance from the Specialized Group for Attention to Family and Gender-Based Violence (GEAVIG), which transported her to a local hospital for comprehensive medical care. Institutional protocols were activated to provide legal and psychological support in compliance with laws protecting minors.
The Specialized Prosecutor's Office for Crimes Committed by Adolescents has opened an investigation to clarify the facts and proceed with the appropriate legal process. Authorities aim to ensure the suspect faces judicial proceedings.
Due to the involvement of minors, the identities of both the accused and the victim remain confidential.
The Quintana Roo State Attorney General's Office confirmed the arrest in a social media post, stating, "Security authorities in Quintana Roo have captured a teenager for the crime of rape in Benito Juárez."
The case continues under investigation as officials work to uphold justice for the victim.
