TULUM — A taxi affiliated with the "Tiburones del Caribe" union was left overturned on the side of the highway to Aldea Tulum following a dramatic accident that left the vehicle abandoned in the brush.
The incident drew the attention of motorists traveling through the area, who reported the overturned vehicle and documented the scene. Upon the arrival of elements of Civil Protection and municipal authorities, the driver was no longer at the location.
Witnesses reported that the driver exited the vehicle staggering and walked several meters along the roadway in what appeared to be a state of intoxication. During his trek, he was nearly struck by a pickup truck, whose occupants subsequently assisted him and ultimately removed him from the area.
The taxi, with unit number 979 and license plates from Quintana Roo, was left overturned on the edge of the highway. This prompted the mobilization of rescue teams and Municipal Police to cordon off the area and prevent another incident. Support was later requested for a tow truck to remove the wrecked vehicle.
At this time, the driver's state of health and the causes that led to the accident have not been officially disclosed. The ministerial authority will be tasked with clarifying the events and determining possible liabilities, as the traffic regulations stipulate that an involved driver must remain at the scene until the arrival of security forces.
Local residents noted that accidents are frequently recorded on that stretch of highway due to drivers in an unfit state or those traveling at excessive speeds.
