Taxi Engulfed in Flames on Highway 307 Near Cancun Airport

A taxi fully engulfed in flames on the side of Highway 307 near Cancun International Airport

Cancun, Quintana Roo — A taxi burst into flames while traveling on Federal Highway 307 between Cancun International Airport and Playa del Carmen on Thursday, authorities said.

The driver noticed heat and possible smoke inside the vehicle as he drove southbound. When he tried to stop the problem, fire spread from the engine compartment and quickly consumed most of the car.

Federal officers, highway patrol personnel, and airport security staff responded to the scene to manage traffic and prevent further accidents. Urban rescue units and firefighters arrived to extinguish the blaze and check for any trapped occupants.

Officials confirmed there were no injuries — only material damage. The taxi was completely destroyed and later removed by a tow truck for investigation. The cause of the fire remains unknown as authorities work to determine responsibility.
