Playa del Carmen, Quintana Roo — A young motorcyclist was seriously injured after being hit by a taxi that allegedly failed to stop at a stop sign in an accident recorded in the Ejido neighborhood of Playa del Carmen. The incident occurred at the intersection of Calle 28 and Avenida 120, an area with high vehicular traffic.
According to testimonies gathered at the scene, the taxi involved, identified with the economic number 29-21, was traveling on Calle 28 and, upon reaching the intersection with Avenida 120, crossed without respecting the mandatory stop. At that moment, it struck the young man who was traveling on a motorcycle on the main road.
After the strong collision, the motorcyclist was thrown several meters, ending up in the brush on the side of the avenue. The motorcycle was severely damaged, evidencing the magnitude of the impact.
Driver Fled the Scene
After hitting the young man, the taxi continued on its way and, meters ahead, collided with another vehicle. However, the driver decided to flee, abandoning part of the taxi’s front fascia at the accident site. Preliminary information indicated that the vehicle was a Nissan Versa.
Security and transit personnel arrived at the scene to attend to the emergency and gather evidence to help locate the responsible party.
Witnesses indicated that the young man had a severe injury to one of his legs, so his health condition was described as delicate. Paramedics provided pre-hospital care, and he was later transferred to a medical center to receive specialized attention.
Authorities confirmed that they already have the license plate of the taxi involved, which will allow them to advance in the investigations to locate the driver and determine responsibilities.
