Playa del Carmen, Quintana Roo — A man lost his life and at least four people were injured following a serious vehicle accident that occurred on Saturday morning on Federal Highway 307, on the Playa del Carmen–Cancún stretch, near the area known as Punta Maroma.
According to initial reports, a taxi coming from Playa del Carmen collided with a tourist transport van, causing one of the vehicles to end up off the asphalt roadway, on the central median. As a result of the severe impact, one of the occupants was trapped and died at the scene.
Red Cross paramedics arrived to provide pre-hospital care to the injured individuals, who were subsequently transported to nearby hospitals for medical evaluation.
Elements of the National Guard’s Roads Division took charge of the corresponding investigation to determine the causes of the accident and assign responsibility.
Later, personnel from the Forensic Medical Service arrived at the site to recover the body and proceed with the corresponding legal procedures.
