Cancún, Quintana Roo — Luis Alexander, alias "Conejo," has become the ninth individual implicated in the homicide of José Luis, a member of the "Andrés Quintana Roo" taxi union. The incident, which occurred in October 2024, stemmed from an internal dispute over control of the union.

Judicial Proceedings and Arrest

Authorities from the Fiscalía General del Estado (FGE) confirmed that Luis Alexander, a 34-year-old taxi driver, was arrested for his alleged involvement in the crime. A Judge of Control ordered preventive detention for two years and set a six-month deadline for the completion of supplementary investigations.

According to the investigation, Luis Alexander acted as a lookout ("halcón") on the day of the murder, monitoring the victim's movements from the union's premises. His role was to alert the perpetrators about José Luis's departure and any police presence in the area.

Details of the Crime

José Luis was abducted by four individuals upon arriving at his home in the Unidad Morelos neighborhood of Supermanzana 59. Days later, his body was found in a wooded area along the federal Cancún-Mérida highway, approximately 30 minutes from the city center. The victim had sustained at least 20 gunshot wounds and showed signs of torture.

Broader Investigation

This arrest brings the total number of suspects linked to the case to nine. Previous detainees include Salomón "N," alias "Mafer," the union's interim leader, along with associates Óscar Antonio, Juan Manuel, José Rosendo, and taxi drivers Jonathan Emmanuel, Efraín, Héctor Ismael, and Julio Adrián.

Authorities allege that the group operated as a criminal organization within the taxi union, engaging in illegal activities. The homicide was reportedly motivated by a power struggle within the union.

Official Statement

The FGE Quintana Roo stated on social media:

"The FGE Quintana Roo secures legal proceedings for the ninth suspect in the homicide of a member of the 'Andrés Quintana Roo' Taxi Union. #ZeroImpunityCancún #JusticeForAll."

The case remains under investigation as authorities work to dismantle criminal networks embedded in local unions.
