Tulum, Mexico — A taxi driver identified as Bertha "N," a member of the "Tiburones del Caribe" union, has been reported missing after she was last seen providing a service to the hotel zone of Playa del Carmen. Hours later, her vehicle was discovered abandoned at a gas station, with no trace of her except for one of her shoes found nearby.
Disappearance After Reporting Flat Tire
According to preliminary information provided by family members, the woman notified them that she had a flat tire during her trip but subsequently lost all communication. The alert was issued around midnight when a 911 call reported the discovery of her vehicle, a Mitsubishi Xpander with taxi number 329, at a Mobil gas station.
Officers from the Secretariat of Public Security and Citizen Protection arrived at the scene and confirmed that the vehicle was unoccupied, showing signs of having been abandoned on the shoulder. A shoe belonging to the driver was also found in the vicinity, raising concerns about her physical safety.
Investigation Underway
During their inquiries, authorities spoke with a close relative who stated that the victim had notified them around 10:00 p.m. that she was heading to Playa del Carmen for a service. During the trip, she sent a message indicating that the left rear tire of her taxi had gone flat but never communicated again afterward.
As of now, the woman remains missing. Authorities have opened an investigation file and continue search efforts in coordination with family members and fellow union members.
