Cancún, Quintana Roo — A taxi driver was detected urinating in public, standing next to his work unit, which was parked on a public road in the hotel zone, in a video recorded and shared by another driver, in an incident considered outrageous by citizens.
Hours after this video was circulated on social media, the Institute of Mobility of Quintana Roo (IMOVEQROO) reported that it initiated an investigation and has fully identified the taxi service operator, in addition to requesting the corresponding union to apply sanctions and disciplinary measures.
In the video, an operator is seen leaning against the rear right door of the parked taxi, with economic number 170, before urinating in the middle of the public road, on an avenue with many palm trees, apparently in the Punta Cancún area of the hotel zone.
The elderly taxi driver was dressed in sweatpants and flip-flops, without wearing the uniform of the Andrés Quintana Roo union.
In response, IMOVEQROO issued an official statement indicating that it opened an investigation into the unacceptable conduct of the taxi operator in the hotel zone, asserting zero tolerance for behaviors that undermine this service.
In this case, the authority stated that the operator reported in the video circulating on social media has already been identified. “He is observed, possibly in an inappropriate state, behaving unacceptably in public,” the document specifies.
For this reason, IMOVEQROO indicated that it requested the union to provide an official report on the facts and verification of compliance with its own protocols and internal disciplinary measures to apply sanctions.
For its part, the Institute opened an administrative file to formally investigate the case and will proceed in accordance with the Mobility Law and the Public Transportation Regulations.
Following these events, IMOVEQROO called on concessionaires and operators to maintain professional, respectful conduct aligned with the standards required by the service.
This case occurred amid constant complaints against taxi drivers for providing poor service, sometimes in old, damaged vehicles with lack of maintenance.
