A taxi driver from the Single Union of Rental Car Drivers (Suchaa) was arrested in Chetumal after a citizen claimed he was robbed of 50,000 pesos by two individuals who then fled in the driver's taxi.

The victim reported that he was approached by two armed men while walking on Emilio Portes Gil street just before 1 p.m. The men demanded the money he was carrying, which he claimed was the proceeds from a recent land sale. Fearing for his safety, the victim handed over the money, approximately 50,000 pesos in cash. The men then jumped into a nearby taxi and drove off. The victim immediately notified the authorities.

Local motorcyclists and delivery bikers joined in the pursuit of the taxi, aiding the authorities in tracking down the driver. The taxi driver was eventually apprehended by the Secretariat of Citizen Security (SSC) at the intersection of Otilio Montaña and Chicozapote, in the Arboledas neighborhood. The police-led operation drew attention from local residents who watched the unfolding events with interest.

Upon inspection of the taxi, however, the two alleged assailants were not found. A city-wide search operation continued, but no additional arrests have been made and the stolen money has not been recovered.

Following the arrest, the taxi driver was taken to the police station for questioning to determine his potential involvement in the robbery. The taxi remains impounded as the investigation continues. The victim has been encouraged to file a formal complaint with the State Attorney General's Office (FGE) to aid in their ongoing investigation.
