Cancún, Mexico — Authorities in Cancún have arrested the alleged perpetrators of an armed robbery at the Momentos Bizzarro jewelry store located in the Plaza Las Américas shopping center. The suspects were located and detained through a police operation on streets within the city's Region 248.
According to reports, the incident occurred at approximately 8:00 PM on Tuesday, October 14. Armed individuals entered the aforementioned store and subdued the staff. The assailants allegedly fired shots into the air, which frightened people present in the shopping center at the time.
Subsequently, the subjects proceeded to break the glass of the display cases safeguarding the merchandise at the Plaza Las Américas jewelry store, which included items such as watches, bracelets, rings, and other costly products.
According to authorities, the alleged criminals attempted to escape through the area where the pet stores are located, aiming to take advantage of the state of uncertainty they had themselves generated within the shopping center.
Despite this, authorities were able to track them thanks to information provided by witnesses and recordings from surveillance cameras. It was through this means that, after deploying an operation, the thieves were located and subsequently detained on streets of the Casas del Mar subdivision, in Region 248, near Tules Avenue.
Once the subjects were detained, investigations were initiated by personnel from the Quintana Roo State Attorney General's Office, who proceeded to collect evidence that will help convict those responsible for the robbery committed at Plaza Las Américas in Cancún.
A Series of Incidents Targeting Jewelry Stores in Malls
Jewelry stores located in Cancún's shopping centers have been a target for criminals, as Tuesday's robbery is the fourth incident of this type so far this year. The difference is that this time the robbery was successfully completed, although the total value of the stolen goods remains unknown at this time.
Another notable fact is that, according to witnesses, the subjects were armed and fired shots into the air to intimidate the staff and customers present. Fortunately, no injuries were reported.
With the events of Tuesday night in Cancún, it is clear that no one is safe, not even in shopping plazas, which are equipped with private security personnel and surveillance cameras.
