Florence Cassez Suspect Arrested in Mexico

accompliss detained in the case of Florence Cassez

Cancún, Mexico — Edgar “N”, a suspect linked to the case of French citizen Florence Cassez, was arrested in a coordinated operation by the Quintana Roo State Secretariat of Citizen Security (SSC) with support from the Federal Attorney General's Office and the Ministerial Police of the State of Mexico.

The arrest was carried out following the execution of an arrest warrant issued by a Federal District Criminal Court in the State of Mexico for the crime of kidnapping. Authorities did not disclose the exact location where the detention took place but reported that Edgar “N” has already been transferred to the State of Mexico to be presented before the authorities who requested him.

The SSC emphasized that the detainee has a direct relationship with Florence Cassez, the French citizen who was convicted in Mexico in 2007 for organized crime, kidnapping, and illegal possession of firearms for the exclusive use of the military.

The Cassez case became a media sensation internationally. In 2005, she was arrested for her alleged participation in a criminal group dedicated to kidnapping. Two years later, a Mexican court sentenced her to 60 years in prison. However, in 2013, the Mexican Supreme Court of Justice ordered her release due to procedural irregularities, generating a broad debate about the Mexican judicial system and the rights of the accused.

Edgar “N” remains in custody while the corresponding legal procedures are carried out for his presentation before the authority that issued the arrest warrant. The involved corporations reported that coordination between federal and local authorities was important to finalize the capture and guarantee that the detainee faces the charges against him.
