Playa del Carmen, Mexico — Municipal President Estefanía Mercado immediately activated the Storm Operation in response to intense rainfall caused by a low-pressure system with potential cyclonic development, located 450 kilometers southwest of Playa del Carmen.

The operation was deployed by the Secretariat of Civil Protection, Risk Prevention, and Firefighters in coordination with the Municipal Public Services Secretariat. Its objective is to provide timely assistance to residents, prevent damage, and maintain urban infrastructure functionality.

Preventive Measures and Coordination

Darwin Covarrubias, Secretary of Civil Protection in Playa del Carmen, stated that among the actions taken were the cleaning and unclogging of storm drains and grates, as well as tree pruning. These measures aim to improve water drainage, reduce the risk of flooding, and protect both people and property.

Covarrubias emphasized the importance of preventive work and acknowledged the commitment of operational personnel, alongside Public Services workers led by Secretary Julieta Martín. Teams have been on-site since early hours, addressing citizen reports and monitoring high-risk areas.

Monitoring Weather Conditions

Authorities are maintaining constant surveillance over the low-pressure system in the Atlantic, which currently has a 20% chance of cyclonic development in the next 48 hours and a 30% chance within seven days. Residents are urged to stay informed through official channels, avoid spreading rumors, and follow recommendations from authorities.

"The commitment of the government under Municipal President Estefanía Mercado is to act swiftly and responsibly to protect citizens," the statement concluded.
