Playa del Carmen — A red Nissan Rogue slammed into the entrance sign of the Punta Venado Beach Club this afternoon, damaging part of the structure along the Playa del Carmen–Tulum highway.
The crash happened on Sunday around noon when the SUV’s driver, heading south at high speed, lost control near the beach club entrance. Witnesses say the vehicle veered off the road, continued for several meters along the shoulder, and then collided with the sign.
Despite the impact, the woman behind the wheel was uninjured. She immediately called 911 to report the incident.
National Guard officers arrived to take over the investigation and determine responsibility. The driver, who holds insurance, will cover the damages. Authorities also called a tow truck to remove the vehicle from the scene.
