Tulum, Quintana Roo — South Korean actress Moon Ga Young has donated 50 million South Korean won, equivalent to over $34,000, to support social projects for vulnerable women and children in Tulum.

The funds, sourced from proceeds of her essay book PATA, were channeled through the international organization COINTREE, which has operated in Mexico since 2019.

According to the organization, the contribution will strengthen child healthcare programs, improve basic infrastructure in schools within vulnerable communities, and develop economic self-sufficiency schemes for women, including single mothers and heads of households.

Specific actions include constructing school bathrooms, implementing an emergency medical response system for children, and creating stable jobs through community-based productive models.

COINTREE emphasized that Moon maintained direct communication with the operational team to define how the funds would be used and ensure measurable community impact.

“Moon Ga Young doesn’t just donate; she gets involved so every contribution creates real change,” said Han Young Joon, the organization’s executive director.

The actress’s gesture also inspired her international followers to join the cause with additional donations, expanding the reach of programs in Tulum.

COINTREE Mexico works to provide children and youth with access to formal education, healthcare, and free treatments, particularly in areas with social disadvantages. With this new support, the organization aims to broaden its coverage and strengthen its programs throughout 2026.
