Uman, Yucatan — A snake took refuge in the engine of a parked car Tuesday night, prompting police and firefighters to seal off a residential street in the Piedra de Agua subdivision while they worked to remove the reptile.
The snake was first spotted moving among parked vehicles on Calle 45 near Calle 48. After residents tried to corner it, the animal slipped inside the engine compartment of a black Chevrolet, making it hard to reach, authorities said.
Municipal police cordoned off the area to keep onlookers away while firefighters conducted a detailed inspection of the vehicle. The rescuers located the snake and removed it safely, without injury to the animal or anyone nearby.
Officials reminded residents not to attempt to capture or handle wild animals on their own and urged them to report sightings to emergency services so trained personnel can deal with the situation.
