Cancun, Quintana Roo — A shootout in Cancun’s Supermanzana 41 triggered a Code Red alert and a major police mobilization on Tuesday afternoon, following a chase related to a vehicle theft arrest warrant.
The incident occurred on Tikal Street behind Plaza Outlet, where gunfire erupted after several individuals attempted to flee from authorities executing an arrest warrant for vehicle theft. Preliminary reports indicate weapons were discharged during the pursuit, alarming residents and local businesses.
Prosecutors and multiple police units arrived at the scene to secure the perimeter and launch a search operation. Authorities have detained one person, while at least two others managed to escape.
Police remain in the area, and officials are urging the public to avoid the zone to allow security personnel to continue their work.
