Tulum, Mexico — A family of foreign tourists escaped injury after their vehicle was struck by a semi-truck on the Tulum-Cobá highway near the Maya Train station on Thursday morning.
The incident occurred at kilometer 3 of the state highway, near the access point to the Kaan Luum lagoon, a popular tourist attraction in the area. According to initial reports, the tourist family was heading toward the lagoon when the driver attempted to enter the access road without taking proper precautions.
The driver failed to notice a semi-truck traveling behind them from north to south, leading to the collision that caused alarm among the vehicle’s occupants.
The truck operator reacted quickly, preventing a more severe impact. However, the semi-truck still grazed the tourists’ vehicle, creating a dramatic but non-fatal incident.
The accident generated moments of tension and fear among those involved due to the proximity and size of the heavy vehicle.
