Playa del Carmen, Quintana Roo — With the participation of 140 master artisans from different parts of Mexico, the second edition of the Xcaret Mexican Folk Art Fair was inaugurated on September 25. The event will be available until the 28th of this month at the eco-archaeological park in Quintana Roo. At least 10,000 people are expected to visit the fair.

Francisca Palafox Herrán, an Oaxacan artisan and winner of the XII Edition of the National Contest of Great Masters of Mexican Artisanal Heritage 2025 with a huipil titled “Müm Nejmior Kan,” welcomed the attendees.

"Each one of us has a gift, a work that God allowed us to do; this is an achievement for us because we are invited here today and we gladly bring the pieces we make with our hands. Here we are getting to know each other and sharing everything we bring from our communities, each piece. For example, in my case, I bless the dress I make even without knowing how far it will go, who will wear it," she said.

Present at the inauguration were Miguel Quintana Pali, president and general director of Grupo Xcaret; Nathalie Desplas, federal Undersecretary of Tourism; Sonya Santos, general director of the National Fund for the Promotion of Handicrafts (Fonart); Lilian Villanueva, director of the Institute of Culture and the Arts (ICA) of Quintana Roo; Estefania Hernández, Secretary of Tourism for the municipality of Playa del Carmen; Leticia Aguerrebere, general director of the fair; and Leticia Rodríguez, director of Xcaret park.

The fair is free for visitors to the Xcaret park; for the general public, it costs 200 pesos. Artisans from different states are present, including Baja California, Michoacán, Querétaro, Jalisco, Chiapas, Oaxaca, State of Mexico, Campeche, Yucatán, and several municipalities of Quintana Roo.

Attendees can find textiles, ceramic pieces, clay, amber, silver, wood and bone carvings, as well as book presentations, workshops, and lectures.

"I thank you for your presence here to welcome this small group representing the thousands of artisans they stand for, who with their hands over centuries have dignified everything made in Mexico. They transmit our histories, our traditions… they prepared for an entire year to be here today; they are bearers of traditions, teachings that are not done in a day, but the result you will see. They bring beautiful things and ancient traditions," said Miguel Quintana Pali.
