The Institute of Oceanography of the Secretary of the Navy (Semar) has reported an 8,250-ton mass of sargassum seaweed floating in the Caribbean Sea. Within the next 24 to 48 hours, this seaweed is expected to reach various locations in the state of Quintana Roo, including Cancún, Playa del Carmen, Tulum, Cozumel, and Xcalak.

Cancún's beaches are anticipated to receive at least 14 tons of the sargassum. Additionally, Semar predicts that 16 tons of the seaweed will arrive in Tulum, Playa del Carmen, and Cozumel. In the southern part of the state, specifically Xcalak and Mahahual, approximately 17 tons of sargassum is expected.

The Sargassum Management and Usage (IEMAS) of Quintana Roo and the Seas We Love Initiative have indicated that they are prepared for the increased arrival of sargassum on the Quintana Roo coastlines in June, following discussions with local authorities.
