Cancun, November 20. Authorities from all three levels of government conducted a search operation at a residence in Supermanzana 77 of Cancun, in the Jardines de la Costa subdivision. The property is alleged to be a safe house connected to the criminal group responsible for the murder of anti-narcotics agent Adalberto Altamirano Olarte, which occurred last Sunday near the Plaza de Toros.

The operation, part of an exhaustive investigation, was led by personnel from the Specialized Prosecutor’s Office for Combating Homicide and supported by the Mexican Army, the National Guard, the Navy, and the Municipal Police. The operation focused on the property marked with the number 22, located between streets 55 and 84.

During the intervention, agents seized a black cross-type motorcycle and a navy blue vehicle, both identified in the investigation lines of the case.

Although the Prosecutor’s Office has not publicly detailed the findings inside the residence, small quantities of narcotics, documents, and other objects were reported confiscated and will be added as evidence.

The murder of agent Altamirano Olarte was carried out early Sunday morning when he was attacked from behind by two men who opened fire repeatedly, causing his immediate death.

The rapid police response led to the detention of seven alleged members of the criminal group, six adults and one minor, who were traveling in three taxis from Playa del Carmen.

The detainees, identified as César Alexis “N”, Gregorio Nicolás “N”, Óscar Omar “N”, Juan José “N”, Juan Ricardo “N”, and José Daniel “N”, were carrying two long weapons, three short weapons, and doses of narcotics at the time of their capture.

The information obtained during the preliminary statements of the detainees allowed authorities to locate and obtain the judicial order for the search conducted this Thursday, strengthening the investigation file.

Although the legal 48-hour term has already been fulfilled, unofficial sources indicate that the seven alleged individuals were presented before a control judge to determine their legal status.
