Yucatán, Mexico — The Secretary of Agriculture and Rural Development (SADER), Julio Berdegué Sacristán, has recognized the work of Yucatán Governor Joaquín Díaz Mena at the helm of the state administration, describing it as a benchmark for the entire country in matters of rural development and the strengthening of the agricultural and livestock sector.

During a federal tour of four municipalities in the state, including the Yucatán capital, the federal official witnessed firsthand the advances recorded in key areas such as rural infrastructure and productive innovation. According to the official, Yucatán is not only advancing in the modernization of its countryside but is also positioning itself as a model to be followed for other regions of Mexico.

"The agricultural and livestock strengthening of the state is emerging as a key factor for food security and regional economic development," stated Berdegué Sacristán.

Tangible Results

The tour allowed Berdegué Sacristán to evaluate the results of the policies implemented in the state, which point to a transformation of the Yucatán countryside.

He stated that the indicators observed in the visited municipalities confirm the solidity of the efforts in rural infrastructure with improvements in connectivity and working tools for the communities. He also recognized the productive innovation with the implementation of new technologies and practices to elevate the efficiency and quality of the products.

He also mentioned the strengthening of the agricultural and livestock sector with direct support for producers to increase the capacity and competitiveness of the sector.

"The effort that it is making to innovate in the fight against the screwworm; the support for rural infrastructure with the electrification of the countryside; the effort to support the livestock sector, supporting people so they do not sell their breeding females—this is counted not on the fingers of one hand, but with half," he said, underscoring the scarcity of such successful examples in the country.

He stated that the work of this state commits him to correspond with this commitment, mentioning he will seek to reform the national livestock laws and double the budget for the countryside.
