Río Lagartos, Mexico — The Río Lagartos Hotels and Restaurants Association celebrated the highly successful Octopus Festival 2025, held on November 21 and 22 at the malecón of the port, one of the most emblematic natural showcases of the Yucatecan coast.

The event’s main purpose was to promote the tourist destination, highlighting its traditional gastronomy, local culture, and the importance of responsible fishing, a fundamental practice for the preservation of species and environmental balance in this protected area.

Gastronomy and Tourism in Río Lagartos

According to Elena Conde, president of the Río Lagartos Hotels and Restaurants Association, the 2025 edition exceeded expectations by bringing together more than 40 exhibitors, including restaurants, artisans, and sponsoring companies. Attendance was also notable: over 1,250 visitors per day, including tourists from England, Canada, the United States, and various Mexican states such as Nuevo León, Sinaloa, State of Mexico, Mexico City, Yucatán, and Quintana Roo. The tourist activity generated during the festival allowed for hotel occupancy rates above 80%.

The festival program included activities for the whole family, such as talks on responsible fishing, panels on sea stories, live music, a gastronomic and artisan market, as well as a serenade under the stars and the themed party “Under the Sea.” One of the most celebrated novelties was the Gastronomic Passport, a free tool with which attendees could collect stamps at participating establishments and exchange them for prizes.

More than 40 exhibitors shared local flavors and artisanal products with national and international visitors. The festival’s closing was led by the renowned chef Xavi Pérez Stone, awarded multiple times and who served as the event’s gastronomic ambassador, offering a special meal to conclude the 2025 edition.

Finally, Elena Conde thanked the State and Municipal Government, sponsors, artisans, hotels, and restaurants for their support.

“Thanks to everyone who joined in celebrating the gastronomic richness of our region. This festival is for everyone and by everyone,” she expressed.

The Gastronomic Passport incentivized local consumption and rewarded attendees with culinary experiences. With this edition, Río Lagartos reaffirms its vocation as a gastronomic, cultural, and sustainable destination in the Yucatán Peninsula.
