Playa del Carmen, Quintana Roo — Rick Harrison, star of the reality TV show “Pawn Stars,” has publicly demanded his son Corey return money raised through a GoFundMe campaign after a serious motorcycle accident in Mexico’s Yucatan Peninsula, claiming he already paid all medical expenses.
Corey Harrison suffered severe injuries in a motorcycle crash in Tulum in January, requiring emergency hospitalization in Playa del Carmen. When his oxygen levels dropped, friends transferred him to a hospital in Merida, Yucatan, where he underwent three surgeries and spent 18 additional days hospitalized.
Due to the prolonged hospital stay, Corey and his friends recently created a GoFundMe campaign to raise money for medical expenses, stating hospital bills exceeded $100,000 and setting a goal of $16,000. The campaign has raised over $13,500.
Rick Harrison expressed clear displeasure, saying through a spokesperson, “To my knowledge, I paid all of Corey’s medical bills long before he posted the GoFundMe campaign.” He also asked fans to stop donating.
“We appreciate everyone’s support and concern, but we believe it’s best for everyone to focus on Corey’s recovery at this time,” Rick said.
International media reports indicate Rick insists his son return the donated money. “He’s a grown man in his 40s and is responsible for how he handles his finances,” Rick said.
Corey has reportedly tried to justify keeping the money by claiming he didn’t know if his father had paid the hospital bills and suggesting any payment might have been a loan. Rick has denied his son owes him any money.
The accident left Corey with 11 fractured ribs, a punctured lung, a concussion, and internal bleeding, requiring multiple surgeries. His friend Aron Chambers helped create the fundraising campaign, which remains active despite Rick’s requests to stop donations.
Rick Harrison has decided to address the matter privately with his son rather than through media channels.
