Ricardo Coral Rodríguez has officially taken up his role as the new president of the Rotary Club North Mérida. His tenure, which coincides with the club's tenth anniversary, will run through 2024-2025. The club is known for its focus on environmental education, with one of its flagship projects being the Tree Museum located in Motul.
"We are heavily involved in reforestation efforts. We visit schools, conduct workshops, and celebrate Earth Day on April 22," explained Rodríguez. He also emphasized the club's commitment to literacy, noting that they celebrate Literacy and Basic Education Month and distribute school kits in local communities.
Rodríguez also mentioned that the club often continues with ongoing programs, some of which are in their fourth or fifth iterations. However, they are also open to innovative new projects. "We host fundraising events to ensure we have the resources to assist those in need. We are always open to supporting any project or situation that comes our way. We strive to support everyone who needs it," he stated.
The inauguration ceremony was officiated by Magaly Cruz Otamendi, the Yucatan representative of the Rotary District 4195 governor, Jean Baptiste Manel N’tab. Rodríguez outlined some of the club's future plans, which include continuing their oral care brigades in communities, maintaining their focus on environmental education and reforestation, and addressing recycling, water care, and sanitation issues.
"For our club, it's crucial to continue building friendships," Rodríguez added. He noted that the club collaborates with various universities, enabling students from different fields to contribute to projects such as the Tree Museum as part of their social service.
