Residents of Yaché Community Report Eviction Threats by Alleged Landowners

Yaché, Quintana Roo — Residents of the Yaché community and neighboring areas have reported ongoing eviction threats from individuals claiming to own the land they have occupied for years, sparking fear and uncertainty among families.

The situation escalated when a group of people arrived in the area asserting rights over the land where the communities of Yaché, Primavera, and Bugambilia are located. According to residents, these individuals have repeatedly intimidated inhabitants, warning they will be forcibly removed.

During a recent incident, authorities including representatives from the State Prosecutor’s Office, accompanied by police officers and prosecutors, detained three individuals. One detainee was identified as Iván, while the other two did not provide their names, and officials did not share this information with residents.

Residents said authorities informed them they cannot take legal action against those making threats unless a formal complaint is filed with the Prosecutor’s Office. This has created distrust and concern, as community members claim they have previously filed complaints without receiving responses.

Yaché inhabitants stated they have lived peacefully in the area for four to five years without previous conflicts and are in the process of regularizing the land. They maintain that, to their knowledge, no legally accredited owner exists within the designated area, and they have used the land respectfully.

The community consists primarily of elderly people, women, and children who fear for their safety amid persistent threats. Residents have called on state and federal authorities to intervene, warning that the tense atmosphere could escalate into a larger conflict.

Community members have since approached the Prosecutor’s Office to follow up on the case and file a formal complaint against the detained individuals, hoping authorities will investigate the alleged threats and ensure legal and physical security for Yaché residents and neighboring communities.
