Residents Detain and Beat Argentine Man Accused of Sexual Assault in Playa del Carmen
Playa del Carmen, Quintana Roo — Residents of a Playa del Carmen neighborhood detained and beat an Argentine man late Sunday after a woman accused him of trying to force her into a home, authorities said.
The incident occurred around 11 p.m. when witnesses saw a couple struggling in the street and intervened after hearing the woman’s cries for help, according to police reports.
The man claimed to be the woman’s romantic partner, but the woman told residents that he had allegedly assaulted her the previous day and had returned to attack her again. She said she had already filed a formal complaint and had evidence to support her case.
Witnesses said they saw the man pulling the woman toward a house while she resisted. Several neighbors confronted the foreigner, subdued him, and held him until police arrived. During the confrontation, the man suffered severe injuries as multiple people struck him.
Municipal police officers arrived at the scene and took control, preventing more people from approaching. Authorities have not disclosed the legal status of those involved, and the investigation continues.
