Cancún, Quintana Roo — Residents in a Cancún neighborhood took matters into their own hands late Tuesday night, beating and tying up two men they caught trying to steal a motorcycle.

The incident occurred around 11:50 p.m. on Chac Mool Avenue in the Sacbé neighborhood, region 249. According to witnesses, the motorcycle’s owner discovered the two men attempting to take the vehicle.

The owner confronted the suspects and called for help from neighbors, who quickly emerged from their homes and managed to detain them. An enraged crowd first beat the two individuals, then tied them up to prevent their escape.

After the beating, residents called emergency services. Municipal police officers arrived minutes later, secured the two men, and transported them to police facilities.

Authorities later handed the detainees over to the Quintana Roo State Prosecutor’s Office. The motorcycle owner was asked to file a formal complaint with the public prosecutor.
