Tulum, Mexico — The municipal government of Tulum, led by Mayor Diego Castañón Trejo, officially commenced the rehabilitation of the coastal promenade on Monday, a long-awaited project considered historic by both residents and the local hotel industry.

A Major Infrastructure Upgrade

During the inauguration ceremony, Mayor Castañón Trejo announced that the project will involve the rehabilitation of 1.5 kilometers of the promenade, aiming to enhance urban aesthetics and strengthen tourism infrastructure for both domestic and international visitors.

“It is through initiatives like this that we can see our administration transforming Tulum. These pivotal projects are made possible thanks to the coordination between the private sector and the government,” Castañón Trejo stated.

Private Sector Support

David Ortiz, president of the Tulum Hotel Association, emphasized the significance of the project and expressed gratitude for the municipal government’s support.

“This is a clear example of the coordinated efforts between Mayor Diego Castañón and the private sector. It is essential for tourism to have the necessary infrastructure to operate effectively. This project will undoubtedly help increase tourist traffic,” Ortiz said.

Investment and Technical Details

Christian Moguel, Director of Construction Oversight, confirmed that the allocated budget for the project amounts to 9 million 950 thousand pesos. He specified that high-quality materials will be used, and all legal guidelines for public works will be followed to ensure the infrastructure’s durability.

Moguel added that in areas affected by landslides, hydraulic bases and specialized membranes will be installed to facilitate proper water drainage and prevent future structural damage, ensuring comprehensive maintenance of this key tourist zone.

The rehabilitation of the coastal promenade addresses one of the community’s most pressing demands and marks a significant step forward in bolstering Tulum’s tourism infrastructure.
